A Search box and a new filter bar find any asset by name, date, camera, lens, drive or how it was shot, the sidebar browses by year and month, and Prismio tells you whether a drive is safe to erase. A catalog made by 0.6.0, 0.5.0 or 0.4.0 is upgraded when you open it.

Take note

This is still a pre-release build for testing. It can lose or damage files, so use it only on media you have backed up.

One known problem is left from earlier builds. When two destinations of an import are on the same drive, Prismio says so and asks before it ejects or formats the card, but it does not stop you, and two storage roots on one drive still count as two copies.

A catalog made by 0.6.0, 0.5.0 or 0.4.0 is upgraded when you open it, and earlier versions can then no longer open it. Prismio asks first, and makes a backup unless you untick the box. A catalog made by 0.3.0 or earlier still cannot be opened: choose New Catalog… instead.

Highlights

Search, and a filter bar for everything. The Search box finds assets by file name, folder, camera, lens, title, description or keyword, and ⌘F goes to it. Beside it, one bar of menus narrows by type, camera, lens, drive, copies, duplicates, resolution, frame rate, orientation, HDR and codec, each saying how many assets a choice leaves. More

Find it by when. The sidebar lists the years your assets were captured in, each with its months. The Date filter picks today, the last week, a month, a year or any days you drag across, and shows at a glance which days you shot the most. It can stay pinned above a tab. More

Can I erase this drive?. Right-click a drive or storage root and ask. Prismio says which assets would be lost, which aren't checked yet and which would be left with too few copies, before you wipe it. It answers from your catalog, so it works for an unplugged drive too. More

New

Storage shows how many assets each drive and storage root holds and how many exist nowhere else, and drives sit under Connected and On the Shelf. Click a storage root to see only its assets and folders, including files on the drive that Prismio hasn't added yet. More

The info panel has a Title, a Description and Keywords you can type for one asset or many at once. They are kept in the catalog and never written into your files. More

In the list view you can choose, resize and reorder the columns, and Prismio remembers them. There are new columns for duration, resolution, frame rate, codec, HDR and GPS, and all but GPS sort.

Videos in the asset view have a Contents button that shows the whole clip as a grid of frames with their times; click one to play from there.

An asset whose file is no longer on any drive has a red crossed-out copy mark on its tile and list row, and the Copies filter warns when you have any.

Using Prismio with only a keyboard now shows where you are at every Tab stop. The folder tree moves with the arrow keys, F2 renames and ⇧⌘M moves.

Improved

Clips and photos shot upright show as portrait, with their size the right way round; WAV recordings and MP3s show their length and sort by it; AVCHD clips show their frame rate; and Sony Alpha and ZV clips show their camera and the time they were really shot. After the upgrade Prismio reads each file once more as its drive connects, so an asset on a drive that stays unplugged keeps its old details until then.

If you pull a card during or after an import with Format ticked, Prismio no longer erases it when it comes back. To erase it, use Format and Eject.

Opening a catalog that another Prismio has open brings that window forward or says where it is open, instead of opening it twice, and quitting no longer hangs. A catalog on a network drive shows a warning.

Restoring a backup no longer replaces a catalog another Prismio still has open, and says so instead. A restore that failed or crashed no longer stops later ones, and anything it left behind is kept, and the notice says where.

Settings → Appearance chooses how positions are written, in degrees and decimal minutes unless you pick otherwise, and which space figure Storage shows: free, used on the whole drive, used by assets or percent full. Settings → Library orders the filters.

While you move the pointer across a video in the grid, the corner of its tile says roughly where in the clip you are, such as ~2:10 of 10:04. Hover a GPS pin to see the coordinates.

Fixed

A card import resumed while a different card with the same name is in waits for its own card and carries on once it is back. After stopping an import whose card was pulled, checking the copied files against the card starts by itself when the card is plugged back in. If you quit and reopen Prismio first, the check waits for you to resume it.

If an import fails to start, the next import that day uses the normal date folder instead of a -2 one.

Clicking a folder in the sidebar while a photo is open takes you to that folder, and the number beside a folder matches what you see when you open it, unless a storage root is in focus.

A damaged search index repairs itself: Search finds less until it is rebuilt, instead of saying the catalog is damaged.

Small sizes show as 0.2 GB rather than 0 GB, short clips show 0:01, and shutter speeds and other info panel values stay on one line. An AVCHD clip shows its full length once it has been read again.

With a catalog kept in a folder Prismio watches, its hidden lock file no longer shows up as a file of yours in Reconcile or Import.

A catalog of a hundred thousand assets opens, sorts and filters without making you wait, Prismio backs up your catalog every week, and the Library selects several assets at once. A catalog made by 0.5.0 or 0.4.0 is upgraded when you open it.

Highlights

Big catalogs stay quick. In a catalog of a hundred thousand assets, sorting and filtering the Library take a fraction of a second instead of seconds, and Prismio holds far less memory. Opening a large catalog no longer freezes the window while the sidebar counts, and the Library keeps up while an import is writing to the catalog. One thing changed with it: letters outside A–Z now sort and match the filter with their case mattering, so é and É differ.

Your catalog is backed up. Prismio backs up your catalog every week while it is open, and at once when you open a catalog whose backup is due. File → Backups lists each backup with when and why it was made and how many assets it holds, with Back Up Now and Restore, and Settings → Backups sets how often and how many are kept. A backup is Prismio's record of your files, not the photos and videos themselves. More

Select several assets. In the Library, shift-click, ⌘-click, ⌘A and shift-arrows select several assets at once, in the grid and in the list. Reveal in Finder and Mark as Organized act on all of them, and commands that work on one asset are grayed out. Reveal in Finder says how many Finder windows it will open, at most 10, and with more than 1,000 selected it opens their folders. More

New

A long recording that an Insta360 camera, a DJI Osmo Action, a Garmin VIRB, or a GoPro in looping video or a Fusion split into several files now shows as one video too, and an Insta360 that records each lens to its own file keeps the second lens's proxy with its clip. These follow each camera's documented file names and have not yet been tried on real footage: if a recording still shows in parts, please tell us.

Insta360 clips and photos show the camera they were shot on and when, and so do HEIF photos saved as
.hif
by Canon, Fujifilm and Sony cameras. After the upgrade Prismio reads every asset's details once more in the background, which takes a while on a large catalog.

In Reconcile, a file that looks like a copy of one of your assets can stay where it is: Keep in “<folder>” counts it as that asset's copy without moving it, and Move to “<folder>” names where it would go. The info panel can move it later. A row that takes its answer from the folder or heading above it shows ↑ before that answer; hover it to see which.

Reconcile lists a file or folder renamed where it is under Renamed, with the name it had. Its choices name the drive they act on: Keep the new name everywhere, Rename it back on that drive, or Make it an asset of its own. The notice above the list says how many files and folders were renamed or moved, its count matches the list, and the bar that announces changes names the storage roots that have them.

An Edit menu with Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste and Select All works in text fields, such as the Library's filter and the Rename box.

Improved

Adding a storage root asks what to do with the files already there, each choice explained under it: Show me the files first lists them in Reconcile until you press Apply; Add the new files, the one it starts on, adds the files not in your catalog yet without moving or renaming anything; Add every file also moves and renames duplicates of your assets so their folder and name match. Whatever Prismio can't decide waits in the drive's Reconcile tab. Choosing a drive's top folder adds it as a whole drive. More

Hold Background Work on This Drive, in a drive's menu in Storage, now lasts until you press Start, even after you unplug the drive or quit Prismio, and so does Settings → Background work's Wait until I start it. Each time you open the catalog or plug the drive in, a notice reminds you, with a Start button.

An empty folder on a drive is no longer listed as a change to reconcile. A folder appears in your catalog once it holds a file.

Quitting during an import says what happens to the card and what not to do with it, and Prismio never ejects or formats the card behind that question or after you quit. When you reopen Prismio, click Resume to finish checking the card; ejecting, formatting and deleting confirmed duplicates then happen as you asked.

The Import tab shows the folder name your files will really go into before you press Begin Import, and two cards imported a minute apart never land in the same folder.

A GoPro's low-resolution proxy stays with its clip, and the info panel names each file beside a clip for what it is: in-camera proxy, camera thumbnail or edit sidecar. Changing Settings → Catalog → Camera extras shows at once in an Import tab that is already open.

Merge… says plainly what will happen. A file on a connected drive moves to its place at once, instead of waiting in Pending Changes until Prismio restarts, its sidecars move and are renamed with it, and the second file on a drive is no longer listed as new in Reconcile.

When the Library looks empty, it says whether there are no assets yet or your filters hide them, with Clear Filters to show everything again.

A catalog made by 0.5.0 or 0.4.0 is upgraded when you open it. Prismio asks first, and makes a backup of it unless you untick the box. Once upgraded, earlier versions can no longer open it. A catalog made by 0.3.0 or earlier still cannot be opened: choose New Catalog… instead.

If Prismio's settings file is damaged, Prismio keeps it aside and starts with default settings instead of silently replacing it. A notice says so, with Reveal in Finder for the old file, and that the list of recent catalogs was reset while the catalogs themselves are safe.

The picture Prismio starts with shows up a little sooner and stays until the first window is filled in and ready, then fades, so you no longer watch an empty window load behind it.

The app says “catalog” wherever it means everything you have in Prismio; “Library” is only the name of the tab.

A drive's name and its role label, such as Originals, stay whole in Storage when the row is short of room, and a camera extra's name in Files is no longer cut short.

Fixed

After you choose Replace it from a good copy and the drive is unplugged and plugged back in, Reconcile no longer asks about that file again, and the row goes away once the replacement is written.

A copy being moved on a drive is no longer shown as missing for a moment while the move finishes.

While a drive is being looked through, the Reconcile tab says its list appears once the whole drive has been looked through, and behind the Apply confirmation the list keeps its rows instead of looking emptied.

Closing an Import tab twice no longer leaves the card blocked; you can import from it again straight away.

A photo that can't be read as a picture no longer keeps the thumbnail job running in the status bar; it keeps a plain placeholder and is listed as set aside in the Jobs panel.

Opening or closing the info panel, or resizing the window, no longer leaves a row of tiles drawn over another, and the selected asset stays in view.

After clicking a folder, the status bar's count changes with the grid instead of a moment later, and after a merge or a join the info panel no longer flashes “nothing selected”.

A RAW with its JPEG, a Live Photo and a long GoPro recording the camera split into parts are now one asset each, from the Import tab to the Library, and you choose when to keep them apart. A catalog made by 0.4.0 is upgraded when you open it.

Highlights

A RAW and its JPEG are one photo. A RAW photo and the camera's JPEG of it are now one asset: one row in the Import tab and in Reconcile, one tile in the Library named by the RAW, with both files under Files in the info panel. A JPEG · RAW switch in the tool bar shows the other file, and Settings → Photos chooses which one opens. An iPhone Live Photo is one photo too, with its movie kept as a file of it and a Live mark on its tile.

A long GoPro recording is one video. A recording the camera split into several files shows as one video from the Import tab to the Library, plays on one timeline, and its length everywhere is the whole recording's.

Kept apart when you want. On the Import tab and in Reconcile you can bring a pair, a Live Photo or a recording's parts in as separate assets, and in the Library right-click to split an asset or join back files you kept apart. Nothing on your drives is moved or renamed. Group Matching Files joins the pairs, Live Photos and recordings a catalog holds as separate assets.

New

Settings → Catalog has two new choices. Camera extras, the in-camera proxy and thumbnail file a camera writes beside a clip: Like any other file, or Don't import, which leaves them on the card and lists them so one can still be brought in. Edit sidecars, such as an editor's
.xmp
: Newest edit wins, Ask me or Don't sync. With Newest edit wins, the default, an edit made on one drive is copied to your other drives by itself.

A drive Prismio knows no longer starts its background work the moment you plug it in: it waits three minutes, so Finder has the drive to itself first. Its row in Storage says when the work starts, and its menu can start or hold it. Settings → Background work chooses between Start after 3 minutes, Wait until I start it and Start right away.

When you add a backup drive whose files sit in other folders, Reconcile spots the ones that look like copies of your assets and offers to treat them as copies. Once Prismio has checked they really are the same files, it moves them into place on that drive.

Rename, move, add or delete files on a drive in Finder and Reconcile shows what happened a few seconds later, without checking the whole drive. A renamed file shows as moved, even when it is one of a burst of look-alike frames.

Right-click a folder or an asset and choose Ignore… to take it out of the catalog, on every drive or on one, without touching a file. Each drive's menu in Storage lists what it ignores and can stop ignoring it.

When two assets hold the same content, both tiles are marked and the Duplicates button in the Library lists them. The info panel offers Merge…, which makes them one asset without deleting a file, or Keep Separate.

The info panel has a Files section: every file of the selected asset, and for each one which drives hold it and whether it is verified, behind or missing there.

Renaming an asset renames all of its files, and the Rename dialog shows each file's new name as you type. Untick Also rename the files to change only the asset's name.

A drone clip that came with its flight log has a Track section in the info panel: distance, speeds, heights, climbs and turns. A clip with no position of its own shows where the recording began.

A clip whose drive is not connected plays from another connected drive that holds it, a 360 clip plays its stitched file, and a GoPro, DJI or Insta360 clip can play the camera's in-camera proxy, with a line saying so and which drive to connect for the original. Connecting that drive moves to the original at the same moment.

Prismio starts with a picture showing its icon, name and version, a new one with each release, instead of nothing until the launcher appears.

The interface size setting has a 150% step. At a larger size, windows open larger and cannot be made as small, so nothing is squeezed.

VoiceOver reads a name for the app's buttons, rows and fields, and pressing an item in a menu or a drop-down list chooses it.

Improved

A catalog made by 0.4.0 is upgraded when you open it. Prismio asks first, and makes a backup of it unless you untick the box. Once upgraded, 0.4.0 can no longer open it. A catalog made by 0.3.0 or earlier still cannot be opened: choose New Catalog… instead.

When work is waiting but nothing runs, the status bar and the Jobs panel say why, such as a paused job or the drive it waits for, with Resume or Start beside it, instead of "No active jobs".

Thumbnails for what you are looking at in the Library are made first, even on a drive that was just connected.

Files already on a drive when it is added are read once instead of twice before their copy shows as verified, and the info panel's "Not yet verified" turns to "Verified" by itself.

Drag the info panel's left edge to make it wider; it stays that wide next time.

Reading a very large card or folder in the Import tab no longer freezes the window.

In a drive's Reconcile tab with thousands of findings, opening it, choosing an answer, unfolding a folder and pressing Apply are much quicker.

On a drive still catching up with a folder rename, answers in Reconcile act on the renamed folder instead of creating the old one again. Accepting a move to a name already taken leaves that row in the list and says so, instead of holding up the rest of Apply.

Detaching a storage root that holds the only good copy of a file now says so in the dialog, and no longer leaves a change stuck in Pending Changes.

The app says "asset" where it said "shot". Rename, Move To… and grayed-out menu items say what is wrong in plainer, shorter words, with more on hover, and file names with underscores show whole.

Sizes match what Finder shows. A catalog that cannot open by itself at launch is named, with the reason.

In the Import tab, Space and Return press the button, tick the box or type in the field you are on, instead of opening the file preview.

Typing
.JPG
or a JPEG's name in the Library's filter finds its RAW.

A RAW and its JPEG imported separately become one asset when you move them into the same folder, and the Move dialog says so first. A RAW and a JPEG that share a name but came from different cameras, or were taken at different times, stay two.

Fixed

An import that stops on a full or read-only destination says which destination and why.

Editing the library, importing or adding a storage root while a drive is being checked no longer stalls, or fails with "The catalog is busy with another write".

The Import tab's Total line and bar no longer jump back while several files copy at once.

A clip that went black when its drive was unplugged plays again when the drive comes back, from where it was.

Verifying copies finishes when one of them is missing.

A file moved outside Prismio while it was being checked is checked at its new place once you accept the move, instead of never.

In the Reconcile tab, a drive being looked through keeps saying so until its findings show, instead of flashing an empty list.

0.4.0 — Every file of a shot

Prismio now keeps track of a shot file by file: a copy that is missing a sidecar says so, and Reconcile and Pending Changes list every file. A catalog made by an earlier version cannot be opened, so this version starts with a new one.

Take note

This is still a pre-release build for testing. It can lose or damage files, so use it only on media you have backed up.

A catalog made by 0.3.0 or any earlier version cannot be opened by this one, and is not upgraded. Prismio says so when you try. Choose New Catalog… and add your drives again as storage roots: Prismio looks through each one and catalogs what it finds, and hashes the files again in the background. Nothing on your drives is changed, and the old catalog is left as it is.

One known problem is left from earlier builds. When two destinations of an import are on the same drive, Prismio says so and asks before it ejects or formats the card, but it does not stop you, and two storage roots on one drive still count as two copies.

Reconcile and Pending Changes list and count files, not shots: a moved clip with two sidecars is three pending changes. In Reconcile each lost file has its own row, so Copy it back here on a clip no longer brings its sidecars back with it. Answer their rows too.

Highlights

A copy says when it is missing a file. A shot is now tracked file by file: the photo or clip, and each sidecar beside it. In the info panel, a copy that holds some of a shot's files but not all reads "Missing 1 of 2 files", and hovering it lists which ones. A complete copy can read "Not yet verified" or "Changed since it was last checked" where 0.3.0 read "Verified", because its sidecars now count too.

Reconcile sees sidecars. A sidecar that was deleted from a drive, changed size or was moved now shows in Reconcile as a row of its own, as a photo or clip does. A moved folder's count and size include its sidecars, and verifying a move reads them. The background check of copies also reports a telemetry file or a camera extra whose contents have changed; an
.xmp
an editor rewrote is not reported by that check.

Improved

Files found beside your footage on a drive added as it is, such as a drone's flight log or an editor's
.xmp
, are hashed in the background and then verified on their drive like the footage.

Adding a storage root on a drive Prismio has not seen before starts looking through it right away, instead of waiting for Sync Now.

In Reconcile, the warning that an answer leaves no copy counts files and names the shot they belong to.

Detaching a storage root keeps a photo or clip whose sidecar is still on another drive, and the dialog says how many will be left without a complete copy.

Importing a card a second time no longer brings its sidecars in again as separate files. Delete duplicates keeps a photo or clip that came with a sidecar your library does not have, and says so.

While an import runs, the Total line and its bar show the size of the whole import from the start and move during a large file, and the time left is shown in full.

The Import tab says sidecar where it said companion, and a camera's own
.LRV
,
.LRF
and
.THM
files are called camera extras, so they are not mistaken for Prismio's own proxies and thumbnails.

Fixed

Importing onto a network share no longer starts every file at once, which could end the import with files missing.

A sidecar that turned up on a drive after an import, such as an
.xmp
, no longer holds back Format and Eject for that card.

After a restart, a sidecar that was copied but not yet checked against the card is checked too, like its photo or clip.

Detaching a storage root with Remove the folders this leaves empty ticked now removes those folders from connected drives straight away.

Renaming a folder now reaches its drive even when a new folder has since taken the old name on another drive.

Rename, Move and New Folder refuse a name that one of a shot's sidecars already has, instead of failing later.

The message for a file Prismio cannot show reads "No decoder for .jxl", with one dot instead of two.

Dialogs no longer cut off their last line of text or run a warning past the edge.

0.3.0 — Drives you already own

Add a drive as it is and Prismio matches it to what you have: the same shot on two drives counts once, sidecars stay with their clip, and a new tab lists everything a drive still has to catch up on.

Take note

This is still a pre-release build for testing. It can lose or damage files, so use it only on media you have backed up.

Opening a catalog in this version upgrades it, and 0.2.0 can no longer open it afterwards. Prismio offers to make a backup first: keep that backup if you might go back to 0.2.0.

The known problem left from 0.2.0 now comes with a warning. When two destinations of an import are on the same drive, Prismio says so, and asks before it ejects or formats the card. It does not stop you, and two storage roots on one drive still count as two copies. The info panel marks copies of a shot that share a drive.

Prismio no longer follows symbolic links inside a storage root or a folder you import from, and says how many it passed over. If a storage root has a linked folder in it, the files cataloged through that link are reported missing the next time the root is checked.

Highlights

The same shot on two drives counts once. Names are now compared without letter case or accent form on every drive, so
Photos
on one drive and
photos
on another are one folder, and a shot in both is one shot with two copies. On a drive added as it is, sidecar files such as
.SRT
,
.XMP
and
.LRF
belong to the photo or clip they sit beside, and a file renamed in Finder is one moved file, not a missing one and a new one. If your catalog already holds two names that differ only by case, they show up for review once the drive is checked; nothing is merged or renamed for you.

See what a drive still owes. A new Pending Changes tab lists everything a drive still has to catch up on: files to move or rename, copies to write, folders to move or remove, each with what it is waiting for. Click a pending badge in the sidebar, which folders now carry too, or choose Storage > Pending Changes.

Open a shot whose drive is unplugged. A photo or clip whose drive is not connected now opens to its preview and says which drive to connect, and the file itself opens when the drive is back. Such shots carry a mark in the grid and the list.

New

Interface size, under Appearance in Settings, makes text, icons, rows and controls larger together, at 110 or 125%.

Drag a folder or a card from Finder onto the Prismio window to start importing from it.

A running import shows how fast it is copying, such as 85 MB/s, and one time left, the same in the import tab, the Jobs panel and the status bar.

A drive can be renamed from its menu in the Storage sidebar. Never for this card can be undone there with Ask to Import Again, or in the import tab's list of detected cards.

A drive that is not connected shows how much room it had when it was last used, even after Prismio restarts. The figure appears once the drive has been connected under this version.

Detaching a storage root shows which folders hold shots found nowhere else, and offers to keep those shots in the catalog and to remove the folders the detach leaves empty. Clicking straight through does what it did before.

A name with a character some drives cannot hold (
\ : * ? " < > |
, or a dot at the end) gets a warning under it, and is refused only when a drive that already holds the folder or file is formatted exFAT, FAT or NTFS.

A video's info panel shows its duration, frame rate and codec at the top of Capture, the way a photo shows its exposure.

The list has a Modified column, and the sort menu has Modified Date.

A storage root's menu has Reveal in Finder and Copy Path.

Improved

Opening a large catalog no longer freezes the window: the library shows a spinner until its first screen is ready. Sorting or filtering a large library no longer freezes it either, and the selected row stays selected.

Project files and other formats Prismio cannot preview now show in the library without switching Other on, so a library tab may count more files than it did.

Blackmagic RAW, RED, MXF, MKV and WMA files, and raw photo formats macOS cannot read, no longer leave thumbnail work marked failed; they show their file-type icon, as before. Files 0.2.0 already marked failed stay that way until you click Try them again on that row in the Jobs panel.

While an import, a move or a rename runs, the storage row names the job, and only the storage roots being written to turn red.

Copy verification with nothing left but files on a drive that is away says Waiting for a drive and lets your Mac sleep. Copies on connected drives are verified in the meantime.

Add Storage Root refuses a name another storage root already has, waits for its check of the folder before Add can be pressed, and fits a small window. Renaming a storage root refuses a taken name too.

An import's progress counts only the files you chose, the inspector shows where a file will go before the copy starts, and VoiceOver reads each file's name and state in the list.

The card bar counts every file on the card, and an import started from it shows the same count.

When a file cannot be copied to one of two destinations because a different file already has its name there, the copy that did land now shows in the library, and the import tab says one of two copies was made and why.

Demo Catalog… says so when the connection drops or a downloaded demo is damaged, instead of showing nothing or waiting forever.

On a Mac in light mode, About Prismio, file panels and the menus are dark like the rest of the app.

Fixed

Resume on an import that stopped because its destination was full or could not be written to now always resumes.

Canceling an import, or pausing or stopping a verification, in the instant it starts now takes effect.

In an import, a clip that cannot be read yet, or a file that cannot be played, no longer shows a player with controls that do nothing.

Batch folders from one day always number in the order they were imported, even after an earlier import is discarded.

If you choose Trust the file on disk and that copy is then forgotten, accepted as missing or detached before Prismio has hashed it, the copies on your other drives are kept as they are instead of waiting forever to be replaced, and Prismio says so.

A copy that fails its check on a drive still catching up with a move or rename shows in Reconcile under the folder the file is actually in, and your answer is carried out instead of skipped. A folder left half-moved on a drive is no longer offered as new files.

A file moved in Finder before Prismio had hashed it is hashed at its new place as soon as the move is accepted.

A storage check that is paused or hits an error partway no longer skips the folder it was in.

The Eject confirmation closes by itself if the drive disconnects while it is open.

Delete Folder on a folder that is not empty says so and cannot be pressed, where it used to contradict itself.

A very small file shows its size in bytes instead of 0 KB.

Auto-open stays set when you reopen that catalog, and ticking it on another recent catalog unticks the first at once.

0.2.0 — Safer copies and a new look

Three of the four known problems are fixed, an interrupted import no longer leaves a half-copied file that looks whole, and Prismio has a new look and a demo catalog to try it with.

Take note

This is still a pre-release build for testing. It can lose or damage files, so use it only on media you have backed up. Three of the four known problems listed under 0.1.0 are fixed in it; the one below is not.

A card can still be formatted while every copy of it is on one drive. Two storage roots on the same drive count as two copies, so when both destinations of an import are on one drive, don't let Prismio format the card.

If you have ticked eject or format when an import is done, that choice now also applies to an import started from Import… on the card bar. As before, a card is formatted only after every copy has been verified.

The + button that opened a new tab is gone. Open in New Tab, in the menu of a folder or the Inbox in the sidebar, opens one.

Highlights

Verified means read back from the drive. A copy marked verified has now been read back from the drive itself, not from what your Mac still holds in memory. And an import cut short by a crash or a power cut no longer leaves a half-copied file that looks whole: each file takes its name only once it is complete.

A new look. New colors, typefaces and icons everywhere, with three color schemes in Settings: Graphite, Slate and Carbon. Dialogs dim the window behind them, a tab shows the progress of its import, and the jobs panel floats over the window from the status bar.

Try it with a demo catalog. Demo Catalog… in the first window downloads a ready-made library and opens it, so you can look around Prismio without your own files. Two tours of computer-generated Canadian landscapes are there now: a quick one of 68 files, about 270 MB, and a full one of 145, about 1.8 GB. More

New

What this version sends is what 0.1.0 sent, with three changes. If you agreed to crash reports, a freeze is now reported as well, with where Prismio was stuck. The names of your files, folders, drives and user account are taken out of a report before it leaves, as far as Prismio can recognize them. And opening Demo Catalog… asks our downloads server for the list of demos, then downloads the one you choose.

An Import Files… button sits at the top of the sidebar, beside the Inbox.

Improved

Eject is unavailable only while Prismio is writing to a drive, during an import or while Reconcile applies changes, and says what is writing. A drive's dot is red while it is written to and orange while work is waiting for it; ejecting then is fine, and the work carries on when the drive is back.

Storage in the sidebar can list storage roots under the drive they are on. A new install starts that way; if you are updating, the two buttons beside Storage switch from the flat list.

Reconcile says what it found in plain words, and counts what Apply will do before you click it.

The asset view's tools sit above the picture, with Fit and 1:1, and the info panel leads with the exposure.

Escape closes every dialog the way its Cancel button does, and does nothing while the dialog is busy.

A catalog that will not open says why in plain words, and names the backup when an upgrade fails. Something you asked for that fails in the background now tells you, instead of doing nothing.

Fixed

A known problem since 0.1.0: in Reconcile, Trust the file on disk now replaces the copies on other drives only after the trusted file has been hashed, and checks each replacement against that hash. If the trusted drive is unplugged, the replacement waits for it.

A known problem since 0.1.0: opening or closing a catalog during an import can no longer record files in the wrong catalog. Changing catalogs now restarts Prismio, which asks first if an import or another job is running, and asks you to quit instead if an update is waiting to install.

Pausing an import no longer copies the file it had just finished a second time, and canceling one no longer leaves that file in the folder but out of the library.

A video or sound file that macOS cannot play now says so, with its file type and what you can do instead, where there was a black box with controls that did nothing.

The third-party notices scroll to their end in one pull, and Escape closes the license, privacy and notices windows.

Pressing a disabled button through VoiceOver or another accessibility tool no longer closes Prismio.

The first update, sent mostly to prove that updating works: it adds a no-warranty sentence and a copyright line, and fixes none of the known problems.

Take note

This is still a pre-release build for testing. The four known problems listed under 0.1.0 below are not fixed in it, so use it only on media you have backed up.

Improved

The license page of the welcome now says the build comes with no warranty, and Finder's Get Info shows a copyright line.

Fixed

The license window now scrolls all the way to the end, and stays in front until you close it.

The first build for testers: import a card to your own drives, see everything in one library, and get new builds from inside the app.

Take note

This is a pre-release build for testing. It can lose or damage files, so use it only on media you have backed up, and only if you're comfortable testing unfinished software. The four problems below are known, and are being fixed.

A card can be formatted while every copy of it is on one drive. Two storage roots on the same drive count as two copies, so when both destinations of an import are on one drive, don't let Prismio format the card.

A copy marked verified may not have been read back from the drive: the check can be answered from what your Mac still holds in memory. Before you clear a card, eject the destination drive, plug it back in, and open a few of the files.

Opening or closing a catalog while an import is running can record the imported files in the wrong catalog. Wait for the import to finish first; the Jobs panel shows when it has.

In Reconcile, choosing Trust the file on disk replaces every other copy of that file with the one on this drive, and there is no way back. If that file is the damaged one, the good copies are lost. Open the file and check it first, or leave the choice alone.

Highlights

Import a card safely. Put a card in and Prismio offers to import it. It copies your photos and footage to one or more of your drives, verifies the copies against the card, and only then offers to eject or format the card. More

Everything in one library. Every photo, clip, recording and GPS track in your catalog, in a list or a grid, with the drives that hold a copy of each. Filter by name or kind, and open anything to look at it closely.

It updates itself. Prismio looks for a new build once a day and offers to install it. Check for Updates… in the Prismio menu looks right away.

New

Add the folders and drives that hold your media as storage roots. Prismio shows you what is already there before adding any of it to your catalog, and Sync Now finds what has changed on a drive since. More

Your folders appear as they are on disk. Make, move, rename and delete them from Prismio, and the files on the drive follow.

Look closely at a photo with zoom, a histogram, clipping warnings, focus peaking and a composition grid. A 360° photo can be looked around in, and a GPS track is drawn on a map.

What this build sends: crash reports and usage data, each only if you said yes when Prismio first asked; one request a day for the list of new builds, if you left update checks on; and, when a map is shown, the area on it to Apple's map service. Settings changes the first three, and Help > Privacy has the full text.
